Rajaji Tiger Reserve

The Rajaji Tiger Reserve is situated in the state of Uttarakhand in Northern India and is the second Tiger reserve in the state. The reserve land covers approx. 820 Sq. Km of Shivalik foothills of Himalayan Forest land. It has been a rich Biodiversity area for a long time and it has been a major spot for breeding and reproduction projects of species like Asiatic elephants, Leopards and now Tigers. The park holds a reputation of hosting more than 320 bird species throughout the year, numerous species of butterfly add colour to this land in different seasons and attracts bird watchers and butterfly watchers which are two newly emerging nature-oriented activities nowadays.It is also home to some more amazing species like the Pythons, King Cobras, Hyenas, Himalayan Black Bear, and many more. Not just rich in Fauna Rajaji Tiger reserve has been home to some of the most important species of flora like Saul, Khair, and bamboos, etc. The park is open for in certain locations where they can take a drive into the park and witness Wilds of Lower Himalayas. Jungle safari is an amazing experience as you watch the exotic wildlife in a very close proximity.

Black Francolin, Kalij Pheasant, Common kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, lesser fish Eagle, Cinereous Vulture, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Emerald Dove, Sirkeer Malkoha, Asian Barred Owlet, Brown fish Owl, Brown hawk Owl, Dollarbird, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Crested Kingfisher, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Great Hornbill, Great Barbet, Blue-throated Barbet, Speckled Piculet, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Maroon Oriole, Black-crested Bulbul, Mountain Bulbul, Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babbler, Streaked, Laughingthrush, Red-billed Leiothrix, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, White-Rumped Shama, Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush, Rufous-Gorgeted flycatcher, Red Avadavat, and more.

Plan of the day:

At a given time of late afternoon our cab will pick you up from Haridwar and a drive of approximately one hour will take us to Rajaji Tiger reserve, Kodiya region. On Arrival our birding guide will help you check in Jeevan Utsav Resort, after relaxing a bit a quick briefing session will introduce you to our execution plan for the tour. Snacks and dinner would be served at the resort itself

Birding Trail at Kodiya, Bayali region.

Plan of the day

After breakfast at the resort, we will head to have a birding session at Kodiya trail, that lies in the Chilla range of Rajaji Tiger reserve. From Kodiya our cab will take you to Bayali region and we will explore the winged wildlife of another beautiful forest land, we will spend the early part of the day in the Chilla range and then will head towards Chopta region of Uttarakhand. The drive would take approx. 6 to 7 hours, and we will have lunch on the go. Also, our birding guide will help you guide with birding experience at the spots of rich biodiversity on the road to Chopta Circuit. Accommodation at Chopta.

Kedarnath Wildlife sanctuary and Chopta Region

Chopta is a small village situated in Uttarakhand state.It is very famous amongst adventurers, Hindu Devotees, Pilgrims, Bird Watchers and Wildlife enthusiasts because of its location. Adding to the fact Chopta serves as a base for the Tungnath temple (Highest Shiva Temple in the world), The trails of Chopta region offers a splendid view of the Middle and Greater Himalayas. Chopta provides way to Chandrashila peak as well. The best part is that the whole region is covered with a thick layer of Pine, Deodar, and rhododendron forest making it rich in Flora and Fauna.

Makku Farm and Deoriatal lake Our first location of the day is Makku Farm, which has a dense layer of mixed forest and a good place to spot many colourfull and some rare species of birds.Afterwards we will explore sari village and post lunch, will head towards Deoriatal lake, a great spot to find some rare species as the lake is situated at a small meadow.The whole slope is covered in thick forest. We will be spending our day birding in the region and in the evening, we will return back to Chopta. Dinner and accommodation will be at Chopta.

Plan of the day

This is a day packed with lots of fun as we will have a chance to witness the bird’s eye view of the whole Chopta region as we walk uphill on the Chandrashila peak trail. The day will offer a lot of birds that love to stay at higher altitudes and are rare to spot in forest regions. With the packed lunch we will continue on the trail. We will encounter a lot of snow on the trail and cold as well, be prepared for it. By evening we will get back to Chopta and post dinner will retire for the day.

Mandal Road, Kunja Khark

Plan of the day

Post breakfast we will head to Mandal road for birding. It is a very famous region to spot some rare Himlayan birds, some of the points on the road has been named by bird watchers like Monal point, Koklass point, Thar point etc. Continuing on the way to Kunja Khark we will have enough opportunity to see wildlife and post lunch we will drive back to Haridwar.
