Today is for rest as we have gained a significant elevation by reaching Leh, which is well above 3500 metres from sea level, acclimatization is very important from day 1. You may explore the local market of Leh and prepare yourself for the coming journey. Accommodation in guest house
This day is a very crucial part of our journey, we will help you explore the cultural and natural beauty of Leh. This will make you familiar with the customs and cultural aspects of Leh and also to adjust with the altitude gain. Leh is a hub for almost all things happening in Ladakh and also all major expeditions begin from Leh itself. Leh is very rich in its culture and dozens of monasteries and ancient temples are there to make this place unique. Leh town is a never-ending trial in itself, for those who love to walk around.
After breakfast we will take a short drive to Stok village which is just a half hour drive from Leh. From here our journey to scale a 6000er starts on foot. The trail is not very steep however the elements of thin air and first day of walking might make it an effort for some. We will camp at Chang ma.
Today’s trail is comparatively easy and short and the landscape also changes, now one may find himself in the true nature of Ladakh. The landscape is amazingly beautiful and it shows all the signs of being a bitter cold semi arid desert. The Man korma campsite is one of the great spots for photography. Accommodation in tents.
This day we will have an easy walk to the base camp. The trail is not very steep and it goes along the valley in a simple traverse to reach that flat land at the foot of Stok Kangri and many other beautiful peaks. The landscape has many water sources around it and you can see the majestic rise of Stok Kangri from all points. The temperature drops significantly at night. Accommodation in camps.
This day we will have a slow start but an active day. We will Start our day in no hurry and after breakfast we will head out to explore the region. Our guides will make sure that everyone gets to know the important things that could be useful on the mountain. Stok kangri may be called a trekking peak but one should never forget that it is a 6000-meter giant as well, so understanding some basics of mountaineering is essential. Also, we will start our climb at night on this day so after evening you can retire to your camps and get ready for the climb at the given time by your mountain guide.
We will move out of the camps at midnight and start our climb to this 6000er standing right in front in the night sky. The trail is a steep ascent in the beginning followed by a gradual ascent until you reach the slope and cross the glacier. This is a bit of technical section and being cautious is important. After crossing glacier, we will start our climb to the shoulder of the Stok kangri, also known as south ridge which is a very steep ascent, from the shoulder to the summit is a tiring climb and it is worth every effort made to reach this far. Our target would be to reach the summit at sunrise and the after spending some time we will descend back to base camp following the same route. Accommodation in camps.
Starting early after breakfast we will head straight towards Stok village and trek for 12 km which will not be a tough task after getting thoroughly acclimatized for that thin air. On reaching Stok village our cabs will take us to Leh. The amazing mountain challenge of climbing a 6000 meter peak ends as we reach Leh.
